I for one agree with you that stopping publishing for Bandai Entertainment was too early. I for one see digital distribution as the future for all digital visual media, however, I do not believe we are at the stage where the profit is satisfactory yet. I think that these companies should try to milk the physical media until it goes the way of vinyls. Who knows, maybe they did it in order to have money for when selling digital visual media is as profitable as music. Granted, the music media did take a big profit hit by going all digital but it is making profit consistently mainly due to the devices that we use today (ex. cellphones). Perhaps the digital visual media needs something like that, where anime is easily accessible changing the mindset that instead of collecting anime in set boxes, you simply have them stored away ready to be watched at your whim.

Agreed with the review. It's very well filmed and didn't expect where it went once Momo left the couple.
Seeing the trailer it could look like a chick flick but it is not. Half the movie is more about the obsession of Momose and his girlfriend. The characterization is superbe.

@Mina: They really modeled Minami after Minami Minegishi? Wow, that explains a lot then - thanks for informing me. I thought Minami Minegishi did a much better job in conveying her emotions in the film than Maeda Atsuko did, which is something I truly didn't expect given Maeda's great performance in How to Become Myself (2007).

I really enjoyed Maeda's performance in "How to Become Myself" over this, which probably stems from Jun Ichikawa's ability as a director over Tanaka's.

I have yet to see the film itself, but it is interesting that you thought Minegishi provided a better performance considering the character Minami was based on Minami Minegishi. The producers or casting directors did not feel confident enough in Minami Minegishi as the lead considering her lack of acting experience. Maeda Atsuko, who is more popular and has more acting experience seemed like a safer choice. I personally would not have been upset by Minegishi getting the lead because it was written for her and Maeda has more acting opportunities comparatively. I do not think she is a poor actress after viewing the music video for Flower. I would like to note that it is not uncommon for idols to provide the music for their dramas, for the big or small screen. This is most often observed with JE groups like Arashi.

@gwern: Good question. At the moment, I'm currently up to episode seven in my viewing of the anime version of Moshidora, but from what I gathered up until now, the anime series is definitely better in terms of Minami utilizing Drucker's management theories. I still believe the live-action does an adequate job, but the anime version is more improved due to it not being limited to the time frame of a film - it just seems like a better fit given Drucker's elaborate theories.

I agree Charles, this is a great piece concerning Japanese animation and its usage of visual queues to highlight emotion within characters. I think the comparisons Branko brought up concerning Western animation and anime contain elements not often discussed seriously within anime fandom, which I'm glad he does so here.

This is my final post. Companies like 4kids,Sandy Frank or the guy who made 3 anime series into Robotech. Adapt it into english and make another series suffer. I'll go to subtitle because the original story is always better than most english dubbed versions. Come to think of it 4kids YuGiOh 5ds pissed me off when they didn't show the last season like the story was supposed to end with defeat of team new world. Just because the story began to describe God.4kids went straight to YuGiOh Zexial. In 5ds the game evolved into turbo duels now it's back to standard duels this sucks more than anything that has sucked before. The series went backwards Ps. the story sucks. The main character is no King of games.

The author of this article didn't want to name names but. This dubbed format some companies not only leave out storylines and put stupid characters like 7 zark 7 in Battle of the planets, they screw up the names of main characters like in 4kids YuGiOh. This was hot mess especially if you read the magna first before it came to the us. They changed the names completely like Joey Wheeler, Tristan, or Tayia are fake names not even close to their ethnic background. The monster card summoning is re worded and has no meaning the game they play is based on magic.
